Leadership Announcement – April 2020

LA CROSSE, Wis. – March 20, 2020 – Marine Credit Union recently announced some additions to their leadership team that will support the company’s continued growth.

Ken Brossman has been named Chief Sales Officer. Brossman joined Marine in 2010 as a Branch Manager. He has since served as District Manager, Regional Manager and Senior Vice President of Central Lending and Central Underwriting. Brossman will now oversee the sales production for all 38 of Marine’s offices. “Ken has gained great experience not only in sales and finance over the past decade but also Marine’s mission and philosophies,” said Shawn Hanson, Chief Executive Officer. “I’m confident Ken will use the knowledge and relationships he’s built with our team members to lead us successfully.”

Mike Spillane has been named Senior Vice President (SVP) of Customer Analytics. Spillane joined Marine in 2017 as SVP of Loan Quality and Credit Risk. The new Customer Analytics team will be focused on data science, loan quality and credit risk management. “We’re lucky to have Mike leading the Customer Analytics team as we grow and work to advance our members’ lives more and more every day,” said Bill James, Chief Financial Officer.

Josh Moore has been named Senior Vice President and Regional Manager of Marine’s West Region. Moore joined Marine in 2015 as a Branch Manager in Eau Claire and was later named District Manager in the Northwest District. “Josh’s management experience has grown over the past five years as he has led many of our team member to success,” said Ken Brossman, Chief Sales Officer. “I’m excited to have him leading our west region moving forward.”

Becky Potts has been hired as Director of Human Capital, Benefits and Payroll. Potts rejoined Marine from Kaplan Professional, where she served as Human Resources Information Systems, Compensation and Benefits Manager. She has more than a decade of HR experience, having started her career at Marine Credit Union in 2006 as Administrative Assistant in HR. “I’m excited to have Becky back at Marine Credit Union. We’re looking forward to the experience and skills she has gained in her time away, and her new leadership she will bring to the team,” said Lindsey Higgins, Chief Human Resources Officer.

Christina Tessmer has been named Director of Assurance. Tessmer joined the Marine team in August 2015 as Compliance Manager. Since then she has not only worked to build a compliance team, but has taken on the joint leadership role of both Compliance and Quality Assurance and Internal Auditor. She has been an integral business unit and operational partner, and provided valuable assistance with merger and acquisition projects. Christina holds the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) Certified Compliance Officer and NAFCU Certified Bank Secrecy Officer designations. “Christina is a huge asset to Marine and will do a great job leading our team and keeping us on track as an organization,” said Bill James, Chief Financial Officer.

Michael Barnhardt has been named District Manager of the Southwest District. Barnhardt joined Marine in 2017. He was named District Manager of the Iowa District last year with many team members having recently merged into Marine from United Service Community Credit Union (in the Des Moines market) and Bent River Community Credit Union (in Davenport and Muscatine, Iowa). “Michael has done a great job leading the Iowa team and will continue to lead our Southwest District, our newest team members who joined Marine through the acquisition with Old National Bank, with great success,” Josh Moore, Senior Vice President and Regional Manager.

Sara Griffin has been named Manager of Credit Risk Analytics. Griffin joined Marine in 2013 through Marine’s merger with MET Credit Union in Eau Claire. She has served as a loan officer, loan quality analyst and most recently, Director of Community Banking. Griffin’s focus will be to support leadership with effective loan credit risk mitigation support, performance analysis, training and education. “Sara’s wide range of experience is an asset to our team’s effort to guide Marine’s lending principles. We’re very excited to launch this new team,” said Mike Spillane, Senior Vice President of Customer Analytics.

Suzanne Witt has been hired as Compliance Manager. Witt originally joined the Marine in June 2016 in Loan Operations. In June 2017 she joined the Compliance team and since then worked on obtaining several compliance designations from NAFCU, including NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer and a NAFCU Certified Bank Secrecy Officer. In her new role she will be managing the Bank Secrecy Act / Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) program, consulting on projects and evaluating policies, procedures, forms and training for compliance. “Suzanne’s dedication to her role gives us more tools and resources to assist and guide our business practices. We’re lucky to have her,” Christina Tessmer, Director of Assurance.

Quinn Devlin has been hired as Associate Executive Director of the Marine Credit Union Foundation. Devlin joins us from Western Technical College, where she served as Resource Development Specialist and Instructor of Public Health Issues in Human Services. She has a decade of grant writing and development experience in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors. “Over the next several months Quinn will work with me to learn about the MCU Foundation goals and operations, and help to advance its mission to increase financial literacy and make a positive impact in the communities we serve,” said Executive Director Liz Popp.
