Marine Credit Union Merges with United Service Community Credit Union

Combined Credit Union Holds $600+ Million in Assets, 50,000+ Members across Three States

LA CROSSE, Wis., December 14, 2015 — On November 30, Marine Credit Union, a $580 million credit union with locations in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin, completed a merger with United Service Community Credit Union, a $40 million credit union in West Des Moines, Iowa. United Service Community Credit Union served more than 4,000 members across Dallas and Polk Counties from its location in Iowa. The combined credit union will hold more than $600 million in assets and serve more than 54,000 members across 20 locations.

“Marine Credit Union is committed to providing people in the communities we serve with the offerings, assistance, and individualized service that other financial institutions do not,” said Shawn Hanson, CEO of Marine Credit Union. “While the credit union serves all members of the communities in which it operates, it is especially focused on serving the underserved – people who may have been turned away from other banks or credit unions because of past financial challenges.”

“We are excited to continue serving our members as Marine Credit Union. We share a commitment to providing exceptional member service,” said Mary Jo Healey, former CEO of United Service Community Credit Union, who will stay on with Marine Credit Union as Market Manager of the Des Moines region. “This merger will add value for our members through additional product offerings and enhanced services, which will benefit the entire Des Moines community – especially people who struggle to find the financial assistance they need to get ahead. The support and resources of an organization that is growing and thriving will also provide training, development, and career opportunities for our employees.”

All seven employees of the former United Service Community Credit Union have been retained with the merger and remain located at the branch in West Des Moines. With the addition of these team members, Marine Credit Union employs nearly 400 people throughout Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.

“We are already planning for expansion in the Des Moines market and have begun identifying additional office locations to serve even more people,” said Hanson, who has led the credit union to five consecutive years of continued earnings growth. “We are always looking for leaders to join our team who want to make a difference and build a rewarding career while doing so. As we expand our presence in Des Moines, we are actively seeking candidates to fill a number of management and lending roles.”
